NALIP, Disney, Amblin, Starz, and MPA Team Up for Latino Lens: Producers Pipeline Incubator

The National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) is working with Disney, Amblin Partners, Starz, and the MPA to nurture the next generation of Latinx producers. The orgs have joined forces for Latino Lens: Producers Pipeline Incubator, an eight-week program that will provide eight to 12 emerging producers hands-on learning opportunities and mentorship. Deadline confirmed the news.

The incubator, which is currently invite-only, will cover subjects such as negotiating, financing, packaging with and without major studios, and forecasting and data analysis. “Following their time in the program, four participants will receive the opportunity for a six-month paid fellowship at Disney, Amblin Partners, and Starz, where they will be further guided in building producing careers,” the source notes.

One of NALIP’s primary goals with Latino Lens is to make sure the Latinx community — which comprises about 20 percent of the domestic box office audience, makes up 58.9 million of the U.S. population, and whose spending power is approaching $2 trillion — are included in the creative and business aspects of the entertainment industry.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with The Walt Disney Company, MPA, Amblin Partners, and Starz whom all share the common goal of achieving inclusive storytelling that is globally viable,” said Benjamin Lopez, NALIP’s executive director. “We’re proud of the tremendous support we have received to help ensure that historically underrepresented communities develop, pinpoint, and contribute to the development of IP. Through the Producers Pipeline Incubator we hope to not only identify the next generation of decision makers, but continue to support them as they navigate the entertainment ecosystem.”

The incubator is expected to expand over time, adding more studio partners and offering new fellowships and professional development opportunities.
